Protect and Preform
Atrocious Assurance
Protect and Preform is all about designing with purpose and intention.
This project stemmed from the idea of utility belts: how they hold essential items and how there is a lack of camouflage in the military for urban areas. This led Innes to investigate how people keep their essential and personal belongings, Innes identified that there is a need to protect against pic pocketers and card skimmers in urban areas. Using print as her medium, Innes wanted to create an urban camouflage that would deter pic pocketers and card skimmers.
Using metropolitan areas that have been heavily graffitied and fly posted, Innes wanted to create patterns and textures that replicate the grime and grunge of these walls to repel anyone from wanting to touch it. She researched RFID technology which helps prevent card and passport skimming. Then, Innes developed metals such as aluminum wire into some of my prints to create another level of security to help prevent petty crime in addition to the unpleasant expandex textures.
